“In the 1950’s and 1960’s, General Fireproofing was the industry leader in office desks, shelving, file cabinets, and aluminum office chairs.” Their furniture was almost indestructible. By 1989, they were squeezed between rising labor costs and “competitors making cheaper and inferior equipment”, and the company went bankrupt. Mid-Century Solid “Oak” Table
Mid-Century (1960s ?) Solid “Oak” Trestle Table. Manufactured by S. Bent Brothers (1867 – 2,000) in Gardner , Mass. The style is called “Colonial Revival”. S Bentley manufactured high quality tables and chairs. They closed in the year 2000. The table is probably Ash wood, stained to look like Oak. The table is still sturdy, but the finish is not in best condition. The table is 5 ft. long and 40″ wide. It opens up wider to receive extra leaves, but I do not have any leaves. Very good price for Mid-Century solid wood construction. $179.95.
