Discounted, needs some minor repairs
$799.95
John Alexander Kling, an immigrant from Sweden, started his own furniture manufacturing business in 1911. By 1928, he had 5 factories with sales of about $3 MILLION. Because of the Stock Market crash and the Great Depression, sales in 1933 were only $1.5 MILLION. In 1934, John Kling died, and his 2 sons, Arvid and Denold, took over the business. In 1962, Kling Factories were sold to BAUMRITTER CORPORATION, which later became ETHAN ALLEN. Kling branded furniture was produced by Ethan Allen into the 1990’s. The original Mayville, NY, factory was operated by Ethan allen until it closed in 2003.

Vintage Tell City solid maple Rocking Chair
Excellent condition
$299.95
The Tell City Chair Company (Tell City, Indiana) started in 1865. Logs were floated down the river, pulled into the saw mill, and made into chairs, sometimes in as little as 24-48 hours. In the early 1900′ they were making 12,000 double-cane chairs/week. In 1914, they began making rocking chairs and chairs for offices and schools. It became the largest chair factory in the world. They sold to 8,000 furniture stores. Later they started making tables and bedroom furniture. In 1985 the workers’ union went on strike. In the next 9 years, the company could not recover. In 1994, there was another strike for 8 months. Then there was another strike in 1996, and the plant closed for a few years. In 2003, three of the factories were demolished. In 2011, after 146 years, Tell City Furniture closed forever.

The man I got this from, probably at least 30 years ago, got it from an airplane pilot who brought it back from Egypt. He said it was “an Egyptian milk pitcher.” I have not seen anything like it. The pitcher is over 40″ tall. It is hand-crafted mostly from solid copper.
Price: $349.95
(Copper mining in Egypt goes back thousands of years. The Romans sentenced Christians and prisoners to work as slave labor in the copper mines.)

Harden 100% Solid Cherry End Tables (Set of 2)
SET of 2 Solid 100% Cherry End Tables. The tops are 19″ X 19″ square. The tables are a little over 18″ tall. Made by Harden Furniture in McConnellsville, New York, which is no longer in business. Harden made high quality furniture, without taking any shortcuts. Some of their furniture was made for the White House. The SET of 2 End Tables is in excellent condition, with the exception that the finish is showing signs of wear. $179.95 for the Set
Sadly, Harden Furniture, like so many other premier American furniture manufacturers who took pride in their work, went out of business because our government allowed America to be flooded with cheap imports. We cannot compete with slave labor or laborers making $2/day in China. The tens of thousands of craftsmen in the furniture industry lost their jobs.
